Retired Army Ranger to speak at Carson-Newman Veterans Day Service

Carson-Newman University invites the public for a special Veterans Day Chapel Service on Thursday, Nov. 9. The 9:30 a.m. event will feature guest speaker Jeff Struecker, a decorated, retired Army Ranger, pastor and author.

Struecker’s combat experience includes participation in the invasion of Panama, Operation Desert Storm and more than a dozen combat tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. His combat experiences in Somalia were portrayed in the 2001 movie, “Black Hawk Down.” He has many awards and commendations from his military service including the Silver Star for bravery in combat.

An award-winning author, he holds a PhD from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He spent his final years in the U.S. Army serving as a chaplain in Airborne and Ranger units. In 2017 he was inducted into the U.S. Army Ranger Hall of Fame.

The service will honor veterans and feature patriotic songs performed by C-N’s A Cappella Choir. The event begins at 9:30 a.m. in Henderson Humanities Building’s Gentry Auditorium, located in the center of campus. Seating is limited.
